How can we help?
Quick answers about Lokia: extension, learning features, account, and privacy. For anything else, our team is a message away.
Getting started
Lokia helps you learn languages from real videos. In the web app you can watch videos with subtitles in the Lokia player and use Discover, flashcards, spaced repetition (FSRS), and mini-games without installing the extension. The optional browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge adds learning on YouTube: click subtitle words to translate and save them, and import that content into your account. Your progress stays synced in one place.
Yes. Saving words, syncing across devices, and using the full learning tools in the app require a free Lokia account. You can sign up from the website or when you start using the extension.
Lokia offers a free tier so you can try the workflow end to end. Paid plans unlock more usage and features. See the Pricing page for current limits and plans.
A simple place to start is Discover in the web app: study videos with subtitles right in the player. To learn from YouTube in your browser, add the extension on Chrome, Firefox, or Edge to capture words and sync that content into Lokia. Step-by-step with screenshots: How it works.
Extension & YouTube
The Lokia extension is available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. Install it from our Download extension page. You can use Discover and the in-app video player with subtitles without the extension. The extension is for YouTube and syncing that learning to your account. Keep your browser updated for best results.
Reload the YouTube page. Open the extension popup and use the checkbox there to turn the extension off and on, then reload YouTube again. Confirm the extension is pinned and allowed on youtube.com, and disable conflicting subtitle or ad blockers temporarily. Sign in to Lokia in the extension if required.
The extension needs access to YouTube pages to read subtitles, show translations, and save words to your account. We only request what is needed for these features. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Yes. Discover and the in-app player let you study videos with subtitles without the extension. The extension is mainly for YouTube in the browser and importing that flow into your account; other in-app learning does not depend on it.
Turn on captions on the video, pick the correct subtitle language, and reload if the player was opened before captions were enabled. A slow network or unofficial embeds can also affect subtitles.
Learning in the app
Discover helps you find videos suited for learning so you can study without hunting for content. Saved words from those sessions stay in your account like words from other videos.
Subtitle words are colored by how well you know them, so you see at a glance what still needs practice inside the Lokia player.
FSRS schedules reviews based on how well you recall each word. Cards you find harder come back sooner; easier ones are spaced further apart to improve long-term retention.
Your vocabulary lives in areas like My Words / word lists in the app, where you can filter, level words, and jump back into review or games.
Mini-games give you extra practice with words you have already saved. They are useful for lighter, faster reinforcement between flashcard sessions.
Account & billing
Use “Forgot password” on the login page and enter your email. You will receive a link to set a new password if an account exists for that address.
Account settings live in the app after you log in. For deletion or changes you cannot complete in settings, email support and we will help verify and process your request.
Subscriptions and plan details are on the Pricing page. Charges, renewal, and cancellation depend on how you subscribed. Check your confirmation email or payment provider, or contact us with your account email for billing questions.
Yes. Sign in on the web app on any supported device; your saved words and progress sync to your account.
