About

One developer. One mission.

Lokia is a solo project built out of a real need. Here's the story behind it.

Founder of Lokia

How it started

During my studies, I had the chance to do an internship at an international company in Amsterdam. Surrounded by colleagues from all over the world, speaking English, Dutch, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese every day, I realized how powerful it was to actually communicate in someone else's language.

Back home, I got obsessed with language learning. I tried everything: Duolingo, Anki, italki, YouTube channels. Each tool had something great, but none felt complete. I wanted something that would let me learn from content I actually enjoy, without losing my progress or motivation.

So I built it myself.

As an IT engineer, I decided to use my skills to create the tool I always wanted. Lokia started as a personal project and grew into something I'm genuinely proud of: a web app and browser extension that turn any YouTube video into a learning session, combined with a smart review system to make vocabulary stick for the long term.

What is Lokia?

YouTube learning

Click any subtitle word to get an instant translation and save it to your vocabulary. You can also import any YouTube video directly into the app to study it in depth.

FSRS spaced repetition

The most advanced memory algorithm, adopted by Anki. Review words at the perfect moment to maximize retention.

Mini-games

Reinforce vocabulary through word puzzles, memory games, and arcade-style challenges. Learning stays fun.

Custom wordlists

Organize your vocabulary the way you want. Build topic-based lists and study what matters to you.

The philosophy

The biggest reason people quit language learning is not difficulty. It is boredom. Lokia is built around the idea that if you enjoy what you are doing, you will keep doing it.

Real content. Real motivation. Real progress.
